The official Twitter account of the popular crypto exchange Gate.io was hacked by an unknown hacker.
Gate.io is a popular crypto trading platform, which was initially launched in 2013. The exchange is available to use for global crypto Investors and right now the exchange has more than 6 million registered users. In terms of 24 hours global trade volume on this exchange, it is standing at 7th rank just after BinanceUS.
Today, The Official Twitter account of Gate exchange, @Gate_io, was hacked by an unknown hacker. Crypto analytic platform Peckshield was first, which informed about this incident.
After taking over the Twitter account, scammer was promoting a fake $500k Giveaway. Through the fake giveaway, the scammer was trying to convince Gate.io users to connect their wallets (like metamask).
Hacker did his best to trick the Gate.io users but it came into the attention of the team suddenly.
At this moment, no tweets or retweets about any kind of hack can be seen on the Exchange’ recovered twitter account.
In the present time, different kinds of scams are going on in the crypto market, and in the majority of cases, hackers took advantage of the lack of crypto education among people.
Recently the US FBI warned people about the ongoing scam of Crypto ATMs.
FBI said:
“Many victims report being directed to make wire transfers to overseas accounts or purchase large amounts of prepaid cards. The use of cryptocurrency and cryptocurrency ATMs is also an emerging method of payment. Individual losses related to these schemes ranged from tens of thousands to millions of dollars.”
