Major crypto exchange Zebpay has subsequently launched advertisements for bitcoin in Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket matches hosted via OTT platform Hotstar.

According to Twitter user Mohit Rai Sharma, the ads have appeared on Disney + Hotstar broadcaster in India for a series of cricket matches since September 19. Although the advertisement message was “Learn about the simplest and safest bitcoin”, with audiences paying just 100 INR to start using their platform.

Further, Sharma said the statements mark as a historic crypto moment in India as back in 2019 when more than 462 million people watched Indian Premier League matches, about 300 million were already to use the Hotstar platform.

Reserve Bank lifted a two-year ban on financial institutions from providing banking services to cryptocurrencies Zebpay reopened in January. The current exchange campaign follows a September 15 report from Bloomberg that the Indian state cabinet is currently considering legal action to redefine and ban crypto.

According to a report released by the Press Trust of India on September 22, the country’s parliament, which will take effect from October 1, has been adjourned to September 23, eight days ahead of schedule. Keeping in mind India has recently surpassed Brazil as the country with the highest number of coronavirus cases, approximately 5.6 million cases thus becoming the country with the second-highest number of cases and still counting.

The CEO of blockchain consulting firm Tanvi Ratna said cryptocurrency law was not on the list of bills the state would handle when it was in bad shape.

Despite regulatory uncertainty, exchanges continue to grow. In May, Zebpay announced that it has already announced a blockchain forensic company Chainalysis to monitor transactions on Indian platforms.
