A Venezuelan citizen killed by kidnappers. Kidnappers demanded to pay a ransom fund through Bitcoin but the family of this guy failed to manage.
Because of the increasing demand & interest of crypto assets in Venezuela, crypto scams are also increasing. Recent news is coming from Venezuela where kidnappers demanded Bitcoin to release the guy.
Gustavo Torres González is a Venezuelan merchant and was known as the owner of an IT company. Incident happened with Torres on 10 August.
Kidnappers caught Torres and requested his family to give ransom In Bitcoin. Kidnappers asked for 1.5 Bitcoin to leave him. Later through communication, Kidnappers agreed to accept 0.5 Bitcoin.
But unfortunately Torres’s family failed to manage. They managed around 0.062 bitcoin for the kidnappers, So in the end Kidnappers killed the merchant.
On August 11, Torres was found on the local highway with six gunshot wounds on his body.
Kidnappers demanded only to get payment in Bitcoin only. But it is shocking for the family of Torres because Torres was not involved in crypto related activities like buy/sell trade. Since it is not clear whether he was involved in mining related activities or not. According to present records, he was the owner of a small ISP internet company in his area.
Here it is worth noting that in the present time criminal activities are moving toward the digital assets adoption because of privacy and lack of traceability of user identity. But still the crime rate which are involved in fiat use are more than digital currencies use.
