Crypto has its own benefits and advantages but there are few things which are not better with the adoption of crypto. Due to lack of knowledge in the crypto world, people can be easily tricked. A recent report of Kaserpersky revealed all the evils that crypto jacking techniques are doing in Africa.

Kaspersky, a Russian cybersecurity firm, reported that around 1500 entities are targeting crypto investors to do fraud with them. And these 1500 encountered cryptojackers are found only in the first half of 2021.

Most of the cryptojacking ads are related to the mining, Investment, fake exchange and crypto Mining hardware buy. These 1500 entities are targeting innocent people, who don’t know much about crypto.

Around 0.6% of people in South Africa got infected from malicious crypto miners. And in most of the cases it was found that there was fake advertisement.

And also data revealed that around 0.85% of crypto investors from Kenya and 0.71% Nigerians faced this cryptojacking attack. While the people from Ethiopia (3.68%) and Rwanda (3.22%) faced more threats in comparison to Kenya.

The Africa’s enterprise sales manager at Kaspersky, Bethwel Opil, stated

“Crypto-miner malware has been identified as one of the top 3 malware families rife in South Africa, Kenya and Nigeria at present, which we believe emphasises that as cryptocurrency continues to gain momentum, more users will likely be targeted.”

In the fraud based advertisements, most of the time scammers took money to verify or to sell any kind of mining equipment or mining reward power and then after the payment, they will stop to respond to the victim.

The head of content filtering methods development at Kaspersky, Alexey Marchenko, stated

“Both those who want to invest or mine cryptocurrency and simply the holders of such funds can find themselves on the fraudsters’ radar.”
