A British citizen lost around $200,000 worth of Bitcoins because of a honey trap scam.
With the adoption of the crypto and blockchain industry, challenges are also increasing to fight against the illegal user of cryptocurrencies. Scammers are taking advantages of anoninity of the transactions.
BBC recently covered scam news in which the victim (Tom, a changed name) was caught by a woman through a dating website.
According to the report, Tom was facing lonely life since 2020 so he went on dating social media websites. On the social media platform, he came into contact with women.
Tom said that he and that women were planning to live together in the future but in actuality, women was not. According to Tom, Women was tricking him slowly. The Woman told Tom that she is a cryptocurrency investor and also she suggested Tom invest some funds in a trading app platform and if he will not do the same then surely he will miss the opportunity to make a profit.
After that Tom followed the link of trading platform provide by that woman and deposited around $200k worth of Bitcoin and suddenly he found that there is no funds in his trading account at that platform.
“In the blink of an eye, everything was gone. I was sick to my stomach,”
Tom said that Women claimed that her name is Jio and she said that she will not help him to recover the funds and she said that she had to fly to Australia to spend time with her sick aunt. After all these things, Tom found that he became a part of the honey trap and lost all funds.
“I recognized I needed help straight away and went straight round to see my mum. If I didn’t have that support, I wouldn’t be here. I was going to do something that wouldn’t leave me here anymore “
This victim also claimed that he was thinking to kill himself but his mother was the reason not to do the same. In this way, this guy lost all his majority of the savings.
