CBOE will not list Bitcoin Futures Contract in March

Chicago Board Options Exchange announced in a statement that a new Bitcoin futures market will not be added in March.

The firm stated:

“CFE is not adding a Cboe Bitcoin (USD) (“XBT”) futures contract for trading in March 2019. CFE is assessing its approach with respect to how it plans to continue to offer digital asset derivatives for trading. While it considers its next steps, CFE does not currently intend to list additional XBT futures contracts for trading. Currently listed XBT futures contracts remain available for trading.”

CBOE reported that currently listed futures market are available for trading. The currently listed futures “XBTM19” will expire in June.

CBOE launched Bitcoin futures market in December 2017 to compete with Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME).

Future markets give users a way to trade in the assets without actually buying the asset. Investors buy Bitcoin futures contracts and track the price of the asset and speculate whether the price of asset increase or decrease at the expiration date.

Bitcoinik reported the Nasdaq powered DX-exchange will going to list security tokens (STO). Coinbase Pro exchange-listed Stellar (XLM) on 14 March, however, the trading is not started yet.

Some crypto traders believe Bitcoin future market will suppress the Bitcoin (BTC) prices. This is a good relief for the crypto community that CBOE will not list a new bitcoin future market in March.
