Crypto phishing attacks surge 40% between 2021 to 2022: Report

Cybersecurity firm reported that phishing attacks are surging rapidly in the crypto space and this number may increase more by this year. 

Kaspersky is a Russian cyber security firm. This firm is known to provide antivirus software globally for PCs. This company was founded in 1997 by Eugene Kaspersky, Natalya Kaspersky, and Alexey De-Monderik. 

Recently Kaspersky reported that 2022 saw 5,040,520 crypto phishing attacks in the year, compared with 3,596,437 in 2021. In short, the net increment in phishing attacks surged by 40% between 2021 to 2022. 

Earlier this in the last month, crypto wallet provider Trezor reported that the company saw a significant surge in phishing attacks, where attackers successfully tricked innocent crypto Investors to access their private key & crypto wallet. 

Earlier in 2022, Kaspersky conducted a survey and found that 1 out of 7 crypto Investors faced phishing attacks in their crypto journey and the majority of the attacks included giveaway scams or fake wallet phishing pages.

Phishing link in Arbitrum discord server

In late March the discord channel of Arbitrum, an Ethereum layer-2 scaling network, faced an attack and the attacker attached a phishing link to trick the Arbitrum discord’s population.

Crypto security platform Certik warned people to remain aware of any kind of phishing link on the Arbitrum discord channel. 

The Cointelegraph team noted that the phishing link followed a blank website with the text “Astaghfirullah”, which means “I seek forgiveness in God.“ 

Around a month ago, cybersecurity reports noted that North Korean hackers mainly targeted Defi crypto platforms to steal funds from centralized crypto companies. 

Reportedly hackers secured $1.7 billion from the Defi sector and overall they made $3.1 billion from all kinds of hack attacks in the crypto sector.
