Tensions Around Telegram Reach New Level as Indian Authorities Start Investigation

Reportedly, India’s cybercrime wing has been probing Telegram for misuse of the platform in suspicious activities, and the instant messaging service could be banned in the world’s largest democracy if the agency deems it so.

Many experts noted that the ban is not imminent because Telegram is compliant with India’s Information Technology (IT) rules. An anonymous source from the Ministry of Home Affairs told the nation’s Republic News that the investigation is focused on the potential misuse of Telegram in a major controversy—the exam paper leak scandal of the test for admissions to the nation’s undergraduate medical programs.

This news is likely to badly impact the confidence of Telegram platform, as there are millions of Indian users on Telegram.

Telegram CEO Arrest in France & Free Speech Support

As we know, a couple of days ago the French authorities arrested Telegram CEO Pavel Durov over not prohibiting free speech activities on his platform.

So far, many top world-famous influential people, including Elon Musk, have shown full support for Telegram CEO and also supported his vision of free speech initiatives.

DDoS Attacks Against French Government Websites

These days, the majority of French government websites are facing DDoS attacks that are suspected to be linked to a Russian hacker group. The affected websites include the Paris Administrative Court, the French health department, and the French Supreme Court. 

Some experts explained this scenario and claimed that the attack was a response to the arrest of Telegram founder Pavel Durov in France. 

Across all social media platforms, we can see that Telegram CEO is getting huge support, while French authorities are facing huge criticism.

French Government Response

In response to the criticism, the French government agencies clarified that they arrested Telegram CEO because he failed to prohibit child pornography and the misuse of the Telegram platform in illegal activities, and at the same time, they denied anything about free speech-related matters.
