Jerome Powell, Chair of the Federal Reserve, talked about the Central Bank Digital Currency in an interview with CNBC.

Powell said that right now study on the central bank digital currency has begun. And soon they will release the research paper on CBDCs.

“We are working proactively to evaluate whether to issue a CBDC…….in what form.”

Through the paper release, Federal will confirm about the officials working on CBDCs. And there are huge possibilities that they can do the same by July 2022.

Powell also said that they will explain about the innovation and opportunities of the CBDCs with the research paper but right now they are not in a sudden or quick to take decision to implement it because they are not in the competition against other countries which are adopting CBDCs.

“I think it’s important that we get to a place where we can make an informed decision about this and do so expeditiously. I don’t think we’re behind. I think it’s more important to do this right than to do it fast.”

Powell also said that implementation and use of the CBDCs is totally a part of the need and demand by their citizens to grab positive benefits from the better payment system.
