Roman Storm was released from jail, as confirmed by his lawyer on X (Twitter).
Tornado Cash is a popular Ethereum crypto mixing platform, which helps people to achieve crypto financial privacy. In August 2022, the U.S. The Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) sanctioned this crypto-mixing platform. At the time, huge numbers of people opposed the government’s decision but nothing happened.
As the whole crypto industry knows, OFAC added Tornado Cash co-founder Roman Semenov to the list of Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons (SDN) on 23 Aug. While another co-founder Roman Storm was arrested by the FBI & IRS division on the same day. Alexey Pertsev, third co-founder, was arrested in the Netherlands on money laundering charges in August 2022.
On 24 Aug 2023, Storm’s lawyer Brian Klein confirmed that Roman Storm secured bail & was released from jail.
According to the lawyer, it is very disappointing that they dragged Storm under charges despite he helped them throughout the investigation.
Brian noted that they charged him for his contribution as a developer and it is a disappointing thing & also a legal problem for all the other developers.
These all developers are under the charges of $1 billion in money laundering via the Tornado Cash platform. According to OFAC, these developers contributed a lot to conduct money laundering, while these developers claimed that the Tornado Cash platform was misused by some bad actors & nothing.
However, the majority of the people in the crypto sector are supporting Tornado Cash founders against OFAC but few people claim that it is not a good idea to support such people because such people are like dangerous weapon creators but intend like a very innocent person.
