The New Zealand Police working with international law enforcement to track the hackers that stole more than $16 Million from the New Zealand Local exchange and marketplace Cryptopia.
New Zealand Police published a report on the Cryptopia hack.
Cryptopia is attacked by the hacker and lose $15 Million. After two weeks later the hackers stole more Ethereum (ETH). According to Cryptopia data, this hack will affect more than 10000 Ethereum (ETH) address of the exchange.
Detective Inspector Murton commented that the stolen funds are tracked by Police and cybersecurity experts because of the decentralised nature of the cryptocurrencies are available to the public.
Police working with the Cryptopia management and the former and current employees that provide assistance to the investigation.
New Zealand Police reports that the investigation takes some time to solve the cryptocurrency puzzle. Police are expected to finish the investigation with Cryptopia management at the end of next week (15 Feb 2019).
The hackers are trying to convert the funds into fiat and transfer some amount to Binance. Binance instantly freezes the accounts that are credited with the funds that come from the hackers wallet address.
Last week Cryptopia announces that the exchange will re-open in the next couple of weeks at the end of February.
