The number of Bitcoin ATMs since March 1, 2020, has increased tremendously reaching a total of 10000. As per the data from Coin ATM Radar, the current number of machines is 16,835, a strong 57.5% increase, or 9,683 new machines, when compared with 7,152 last year.
In Nov 2020, Cointelegraph reported a striking increase of up to 80%. The majority of the machines are located in the United States where 81% of them are installed. In the US the number is grown by 177% since March 1, 2020, or from 4,945 machines to 13,699 as of March 10, 2021. Canada has the next-highest number of BTC ATMs of 1,268 which is 7.5% of all the machines worldwide.
Austria and United Kingdom have seen a jagged trend in terms of Bitcoin ATM installations. In the past, the number of machines peaked at 266 and has fallen to 153 in this week resulting in a decrease of 42.5%. While in the UK, the decline is been less stark, with a high point of 283 in Feb 2020 when compared to 199 in the latest figures resulting in a 30% decrease.
Figures for Europe are modest with an increase from 1,233 in March 2020 to 1,273 as of now. Coin ATM Radar’s ticker tracking crypto ATM installation speed depicts that 34.6 new ATMs are being built every day. 77.6% of the machines remain buy-only, whereas 22.4% support buy and sell operations.
While the US, Canada, and Europe have the largest number of Crypto ATMs, Hong Kong (85 machines), the Russian Federation (53), and Colombia (46) are the countries with the highest number of ATM locations beyond North American and European contexts.
