Protests against the Covid-19 vaccine mandate in Canada shifted to the Bitcoin crowdfunding platform.

At present, the government in Canada has imposed restrictions on all citizens to take the Covid-19 vaccine. So taking a vaccine dose for every citizen is mandatory. Many people in Canada were protesting against this decision of the government.

To collect funding from the citizens to protest against such forceful laws of government, protestors were collecting funds with GoFundMe, a fundraising platform. But due to some high-level violence under the protests, GoFundMe received many orders.

In return, GoFundMe clearly stated that they are closing their  “Freedom Convoy Campaign” and also they are giving a $9 million refund to all the donors.

GoFundMe also stated that donors needed to fill out a form to get a refund but later huge backslash for such types of annoying procedures, GoFundMe stated that it will give automatic refunds to the donors.

Now in this situation of the GoFundMe ban, protesters shifted to the Bitcoin crowdfunding platform to collect donations to fight against the government rules.

Now a new fundraising platform for these protestors is Tallycoin, a platform based on Bitcoin network crowdfunding. At the time of writing this article, Tallycoin raised around $321,111.

Legacy financial infrastructure can sometimes be politicized and clamped down upon, whereas Bitcoin is a truly censorship resistant method of communicating value,” stated the new fundraising page.

It will be interesting to see whether the Tallycoin fundraising platform will face any government pressure to support the protestors or not.

“The Freedom Convoy” campaign was initially started in mid of January with the support of the GoFundMe platform. However, everything was going smoothly for the protestors but GoFundMe was faced pressure from the government. However the main initiative of the campaign was to force the government to take the decision of vaccine mandate rules back but now this campaign turned into public health measures, including lockdowns and mask requirements matters also.
