Politician Of Nigeria Calls To Regulate Cryptocurrency In Country

The Speaker of the House of Representatives Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila calls to regulate cryptocurrency in Nigeria reported on 23 July 2019.

Gbajabiamila said that the country needs to develop the rules of legislation for digital assets in order to make sure that the country does not get left behind as every day cryptocurrencies getting more widely adopted throughout the world. 

“On the issue of cryptocurrency, I think blockchain technology is novel and coming up strong. We don’t want to be left behind. […] I think the world is taking the issue of cryptocurrency and block-chain technology seriously. We don’t want to be left behind, and we have to take it seriously.”

Regardless of blockchain and cryptocurrencies, most of the lawmakers also discussed the NDIC roles and creating well-defined competencies between it and the central bank of Nigeria.

The speaker also said that the NDIC’s statutory functions would be expanded by the House, and House must be assured as its roles did not overlap with those of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

On the other hand, Things are getting very hot in India about Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies as a government panel recommended the full ban on cryptocurrencies in India.
